The Center for Whole Communities (CWC) fosters inclusive communities that are strongly rooted in place and where all people – regardless of income, race, or background – have access to and a healthy relationship with the natural world.

We strengthen the capacities of environmental and social sectors by connecting their leaders to one another, by helping them to develop more durable and compelling responses to problems that cannot adequately be addressed in isolation, and by transforming their movements to act in concert with each other’s goals and aspirations.

Therefore, we inspire change at the individual level, at the organizational level and at the movement level through three integrated programs: 1) a six-day leadership development retreat called the Whole Thinking Program which is offered at our home-base in Vermont, 2) a diverse suite of follow-up Workshops to help our alumni and other community activists to implement these theories of change on their own home ground and 3) Whole Measures, an organizational and movement development tool that gives different sectors shared definitions and measures of success.

Through our programs and ongoing support we network more than 1,000 leaders working in 450 organizations and communities in 47 states.
